Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
