Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since March of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 different events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was over.
However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved service.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
Moutet saved four early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
